Homeowners in the State of Oregon are now eligible for a 25% residential energy tax credit for the installation of energy efficient appliances, including water heaters. The tax credit is based on how much energy an efficient household appliance will save the first year of use. The value of the credit per kilowatt hour (kWh) saved depends on the type of equipment or system. The credit for efficient appliances is based on the estimated first year savings, and is limited to 25% of the net cost. Appliances with higher energy savings – water heaters, for example – qualify for a higher tax credit. To be eligible, the appliance must be used in your primary or secondary residence. Renters, landlords, builders and developers are not eligible for the appliance tax credit. HOW TO APPLY: 1. Complete a Tax Credit and Verification Form for the system or equipment you buy. Forms and instructions are available from your dealer, contractor or installer, or from the Oregon Office of Energy, or online at Send the application to the Oregon Office of Energy along with proof of payment. You will receive a Certification with the tax credit amount you qualify for. Claim the tax credit when you file your Oregon income tax return.
